CRP (Centro Ricerche Plast-Optica) was established in June 2002, thanks to the joint efforts of Fiat Research Centre (CRF), Automotive Lighting Rear Lamps Italia (ex Seima Italiana) and Agemont (Agency for the development of mountain area of Friuli Venezia Giulia).

Centro Ricerche Plast-optica Srl (CRP Srl) society is constituted in February 2001 and in June 2002 CRP activities get started at CIT AGEMONT in Amaro. The labs are opened in September 2002 and, in two years only, the centre gets the acknowledgement as official Research Centre in Regione FVG. This positive trend crowns in June 2004 with the change from Srl to Spa legal status.

CRP develops applied research activities in the following fields:
- optics, lighting and visual communication devices
- injection moulding of plastic materials and related technologies
- micro and nano-technology

The Mission of the Research Centre is focused on two aspects:
1) to provide innovation, services and consulting to SMEs (particularly in the north east area of Italy), in order to favour their growing up and promote their competitiveness, also by means of Fiat Research Centre expertise, transferring to them developed innovation

2) to become a reference point among research centres, at least at European level, supported by Fiat Research Centre, within a network of excellence with scientific and academic world.
